Give unworn clothing a new, loving owner and help build an archive that is both public and personal.

On 31 January 2016 Alexandre Furtado of Damage Playground will give a presentation in The New Haberdashery about the ideas behind Customer Archive, a colleciton of used, high quality clothing brought in by members of the public, which can be bought or exchanged with others. Damage Playground sees its customers not as consumers but as users who appreciate quality, uniqueness and craftsmanship.

The public is invited to bring in items of clothing, which are then assessed and priced on the spot. The visitor receives a 'store credit' for their item (60% of the assessed price) and can use this to purchase another item from the collection. Furtado will bring part of the Customer Archive to Het Nieuwe Instituut, including items by Dries van Noten, A.F. VANDEVORST, ACNE Studios, A.P.C. and Spijkers & Spijkers, with both menswear and womenswear. Visitors can also use the credit to buy items from the Damage Playground store in Rotterdam at a later date.

This project is part of the programme track Things and Materials and the folder Material innovation.

Fashion has quietly renewed the very idea of renewal by constantly selling the past as a future, thereby framing current reality. This contrasts sharply with the idea that renewal always stems from technological innovation.
